Michelle Jo has a professional background in interior design and visual merchandising, having worked for several years in both Seoul and Vancouver before becoming a mother and transitioning into her practice as an artist.

After becoming a mother, she shifted her creative focus toward painting and fine art. Her work is deeply informed by her background in spatial design and explores themes of time, patience, and quiet resilience. Early in her career as an interior designer, creative expression was often shaped by functional demands and client-driven constraints. Seeking a space for greater freedom and introspection, she turned to working on canvas.

Michelle is a texture-based artist who works primarily with plasterboard, a material commonly used in interior walls and one that is deeply familiar to her. She applies it directly onto the canvas, allowing its natural properties to form the surface organically. Each piece is finished with neutral-toned acrylics, emphasizing subtle shadows over bold colour to highlight texture and depth. She is currently based in Vancouver.
